Legal Requirements and Ethical issues to digital images

Ethics are what is moraley correct when using photo manipulation. Its what is acceptible and what is not.

Photo manipulation is when you manipulate an image to hide or add emphasis to parts of images. Although editing an image could be interpreted as false advetising. It can be diffrent though if it is for a newspaper or anything to do with journalisom, which is when there is a question of if you are using it for an example so that you can still get an understanding of what the image is telling you but it is more subdude and exceptible for a larger audience.

It is deemed exceptible to edit the brightness, and use the burning tool, but you wouldent be able to manipulate the photo to make it have unrealistic standered if you are advertisin

One example of this is The Beatles yesterday and today album cover.

This was banned because it is desturbing and offensive due to it showing big pieces of meat and there is also decapitated baby dolls. This can be found desturbing to people of all ages because you don't want to see any decpitated babys fake or not. The chuncks of meat can also be deemed wrong for people who are vegetarian and vegan because they disagree with eating meat so woudent want to buy antthing that promotes raw meat. Although it has beeen said that they were protesting about the Vietnam war, or how their american record label changed there album covers so they made a statment about it.

To get people to buy an album they need to like the music that the band produce but the album also needs to stand out and be eye catching, but I don't think that this album cover is appropriate although it is eye catching and shocking the magority of people don't want to l-ook at or buy the album that they are trying to promote and sell.

A more modern example of this is Nicki Minij - Anaconda

This album cover has had to be changed because of the contrevercy that it has caused. It is inapropriate because of the way she is possed showing her butt, because of the publics fasination with it, but it gives the wrong message to younger people who might see her as a role moddel becuse she is promoting the uses of cosmetic surgery that she had in the first place so she could look the way she looks now. I also think that if a young tenager wanted her parent to get her the album and they have seen the album cover they wouldent want there child to have the album because of how she has represented herself. It also gives the younger people an unrealistic interpritation of how women should look when Nicki Minaj has had plastic surgery and the photo has been manipulated and air brushed to make her look like she does in the image.

The fianl Album cover I have chosen is Van Halen - Balance

This cover has also had to be altered where one of the twins had to be air brushed out. This is becuause a image of conjoined twins at the end of a see-saw with one looking to be screaming is something that can be desturbing and upsetting, and offensive. People wont want to buy an album that they find the cover desturbing. I don't think that it is a good album cover because it alienates the twins and using them to make the album eye catching, but insted of promoting the album I thinnk that they have put people off from buying there ablbum because of how upsetting the image is. Not many people would want to have an album with the cover image looking like that in ther home. This has also been through photshop to make the background t make it look more dark and dismall than the original photo would have looked. The twins have also been photoshope to inhance them or to make them seem like they are conjoined for the album cover. Although the photo does repesnt the album name 'Balnce' but due to the heavy photo shop to change the colours and the twins makes this album cover highley unethical.
